Knights of Columbus #1412 will celebrate its 100^th anniversary in 2009. One of the key elements of planning will be a collection of pictures, plaques, awards, newspaper articles & other memorabilia that exists in current & past members' families. If you have any items of interest in your possession, please make a list with a brief description, & forward it to the Blessed Sacrament Church office. Know that we strive to grow spiritually, while responding to those who need our help; the disadvantaged, seniors, the unborn, orphans, youth, widows, the Church, and many other worthy organizations through volunteering our time and financial assistance.
Now as never before we have various activities available to help strengthen Family Life. Some of our family programs include Family Bowling Day, Arts and Entertainment Day, Children's Christmas Party, Movie Day, Family Fun Skate Day, Youth Talent Day, Soccer Day, Annual Picnic, and more.
Indeed, we have many other activities involving your local Communty, Seniors, Church, Pro-Life and Council Socials of various kinds to help build and develop lasting friendships. We are sure that many of these programs would be quite appealing to you and your family.
Give generously of yourself - your time and talents. Learn how to build selfesteem, develop leadership qualities, gain satisfaction in helping others, meet new friends and socialize with fellow Catholics who share the same faith, morals and beliefs that you do. Today as never before, Catholics need each other.

Requirements: He must be a Catholic gentleman 18 years of age or older and a pracal Catholic, as understood by the Church. He must be willing to get involved a little to help in the community. So, let us come together fr mutual support Hand encouragement.

Since God has blessed us with so much, we owe it to Him and ourselves to assist those who might otherwise be neglected. All we ask is that each Brother Knight help a little, and in this way a great deal will be accomplished. Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, has called the Knights of Columbus the "Right Arm of the Church".

The following is the prayer that was used by the Knights of St John, also known as the Knights of Malta. Perhaps the Knights of Columbus may enjoy praying it.

Daily Prayer of The Knights

O,LORD JESUS !
Who has deigned to call me
Into the ranks
of the Knights of Saint John,
I pray thee humbly,
by the intercession.
Of the Holy Virgin Mary,
Of Saint John the Baptist,
And all the Saints,
To help me keep faithful
To the ancient uses Order,
By practising our Christian Religion,
By protecting it against impiety
And by performing our duties of Charity
To our neighbor,
And especially toward the poor
And the Sick.
Give me the necessary strength to be able
To fulfil all these wishes in accordance
With the teachings of the Gospel
And with a mind unselfish
And profoundly Christian,
For the Glory of God,
The peace of the world
And the good of The Order of Saint John.

The Knights of Columbus is a Fraternal Organization for Catholic Men at least eighteen years of age. It was founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, CT, U.S.A. in 1882.

Since then, the Knights have grown by leaps and bounds, with well over a million and a half members today. The Order's Supreme Office is still in New Haven.
There are Knights of Columbus in various parts of the world: the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, and Japan.
There are just two requirements for a person to join. He must be a male over the age of 18, and be a practical Catholic. K of C members are the backbone of Parish life. One can find them active in various lay ministries of the Church. If you are a Practical Catholic male at least eighteen years old, and are not yet a member, what is keeping you? Check with your Parish Priest and get started. When you join you will be able to help your Church, develop fellowship, do all sorts of charitable, educational and patriotic works, and take part in a fraternal insurance system.

The symbol of the Order is worn with pride by every member. It is not just a decorative pin, but each part of its design has a meaning. The head officer is known as the Supreme Knight, who currently is Carl A. Anderson. The International affairs of the Order are handled by a twentyman Board of Directors under the Supreme Knight. Each State has an elected body of officers who operate a State Council. States are divided into Zones and Districts. In each District, a District Deputy represents both the Supreme Knight, and the State Deputy. Each Council has an elected slate of officers, the chief officer of which is the Grand Knight. The officers are referred to as "Worthy", e.g. "Worthy Grand Knight", "Worthy Chaplain", and so on.

The section of the Order that is very visible to the public is the Colour Guard of the Fourth Degree. This is the Patriotic section.

When a third Degree Knight wishes to join an Assembly of the Fourth Degree, he decides to profess his Patriotism, and wishes to "advertise" to the rest of the world, the existence of Knights of Columbus in his area. This section of the K of C has special dress codes, with tuxedos, capes, chapeaux, and swords. The members are referred to as Sir Knights [S. K.]. The officers are called "Faithful", e.g. "Faithful Navigator", "Faithful Comptroller" and so on. Anybody that has attended civic and religious functions on a regular basis, must have seen these Knights in their colourful array.
