Council # 1412 Blessed Sacrament
[formerly Our Lady of Beauraing]
Chatham
Established May 5, 1909

Meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Parish Meeting Room, 145 Victoria Avenue, Chatham Council 1412 is the "Mother Council" in the Chatham area. It was the only council serving the area for several years. When Supreme recommended that Councils be established in every Parish, new councils were formed and the members of 1412 helped to found these new councils.
Mary appeared 33 times in the winter of 1932-33 to five children in Beauraing, Belgium. She asked that a chapel be built in her honor, that people make sacrifices for sin, and that they pray always. Mary gave the children a radiant vision of her Immaculate Heart. In 1949, Bishop Charue declared that the Queen of Heaven, Our Lady of the Golden Heart, had truly appeared to the children.

Knights of Columbus #1412 will celebrate its 100' anniversary in 2009. One of the key elements of planning will be a collection of pictures, plaques, awards, newspaper articles & other memorabilia that exists in current & past members' families. If you have any items of interest in your possession, please make a list with a brief description, & forward it to the Blessed Sacrament Church office. Please don't delay; your list is needed as soon as possible. Call Carl Sterling at 352-8365 or Glenn Peltier at 352-4197 with your questions/suggestions.

Some highlights of the Circle

On June 8, 9 and 10, 2001, the Circle sent 3 delegates: 5 members and 4 counsellors to the Squires' Ontario Convention. The purpose of the attendance was to vote on buisness matters, receive reports from across the province of Ontario, elect a Provincial Board, give credit to those circles who recieved awards, to learn new projects to possible bring back and implement in our own circle as well as meet other Squires.
During the business Session on Saturday Morning we listened to various reports and unfished business matters. During which time one of our delegates, Andrew Beck made a few motions from the microphone. When the floor was open to Nominations for the Provincial Board, Andrew nominated James Turner as Provincial Deputy Chief Squire, he also nominated Nathan Bernicky as Provincial Marshall, and Harry Bernicky Nominated Andrew Beck as Provincial Sentry Squire each of these nominations were seconded by members of other circles. Nominations were closed till Sunday. These Young men all recieved parental consent to run for their positions. Then each made up posters to hang around the hotel. Each worked on and prepared a speach with the help of former men who were in their postions at one time and get elected to the Board.
Saturday Evening the circle went to the mass celebrated by Most Rev. Thomas Fulton, D.D, Rev. Brian Bevan, Provincial Father Prior, as well as the Former Provincial Father Prior. This Mass was celebrated for all Squire members, councellors and family members in the hotel. After Mass we went to a banquet with 240 people in attendance. There were 20 circles from all over Ontario. During the banquet St. Anthony's circle was presented with 2ND place Service Award in Ontario. This was determined from the reports the boys had written and mailed in to the Provincial Board before arriving to the convention. If we do not tell the story of how we put on an activity, what the results were, who participated, why we put the activity on, then we cannot win a award.
The Squires run there own meetings, plan their own activities, run their own activites and therefore learn how to plan, execute a plan, and report on the outcome.
Sunday nominations were reopened for each of the positions on Provincial Board. Each member nominated was asked if he stand or decline. James declined his nominations, as he declined his first postion his name automatically was dropped to next postion down on the Board. Nathan stood for his postion as Marshall gave his speach but was unsecessful at being elected as Marshall. Andrew Beck and Nathan were two of four members who ran for the position of Provincial Sentry. Andrew went up to give his speach, reached up for the microphone as he was shorter than the microphone, relized he was too short to see over the potium, therefore he moved infront of the podium, not having enough room to stand on the stage and give his speech he jumped down to floor level. with that a large number of people clapped and laughed with approval. Then Andrew gave his speach as smoothly as I had heard him practice upstairs the night before. The elections were ran with Roberts Rule of Order, therefore the elected had to have 50% + 1 vote to win. This vote for this postion went to the third ballot. Andrew Beck was unsecessful at being elected to this postion on the last ballot to a Chief Squire from Stoney Point who is 17, Andrew is 10.
These are just a few examples of how St. Anthony's Circle 4593 members lived up to being Young Catholic Gentlemen.
If you are intersted in joining St. Anthony's Circle as we begin a new year please contact James Turner at 351-2719 or Andrew Beck at 351-2370
